USPS Zip Code Database (CSV)
1 August 2007
I found this CSV posted on a website which no longer exists. Its incredibly useful, and has more entries than many others I've seen. I've added several to it myself.

Can't stand it when groups follow me on twitter just to fish me into following them (@flcreatives). Spam is spam.

It's an extract of the USPS's City State file ( http://www.usps.com/ncsc/addressinfo/citystate.htm ) with latitudes and longitudes from a commercial vendor such as Tele Atlas.

Don't suppose anyone can think of a legel reason for me not to publish this here?
I found it on a website which I cannot find and believe defunct.

The USPS allows a number of companies to resell this data, so I don't think they'd care about someone reselling it for $0.
However, the data does go out of date. You mentioned adding a few records. Could it be you have a version of this database that is several years old, and you have noticed some recently-introduced zip codes that were not in your version?
(We use all this where I work. We get monthly updates along with the Zip+4 database, although for the 5-digit zips a yearly replacement would be good enough for most purposes.)

This version is probably a couple years old, and so when my users discover a missing zip, I verify it and add it.
I contacted the USPS attempting to get an updated, live database but it was only available for a fee.
I should probably think of some method of getting a more updated version in the near future.
